From the Introduction
The ode was written by Imam Sharaf al-Din al-Busiri, famous for his “Ode of the Mantle”, Qasida al-Burda. He wrote other poems including the Hamziyya. His favoured genre was Madih - poetry eulogising the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless and grant him peace - a practice going back to the time of the Prophet, Allah bless and grant him peace.
Imam Busiri’s poetry, to quote the Encyclopaedia of Islam, has enjoyed up to the present time, an extraordinary success. His guide in the way of Sufism was the great Shadhili master, Imam Abu l-‘Abbas al-Mursi. May Allah reward them and benefit us by them.
